Accord Signed to Extend WINNER to China and Mekong Countries
An agreement between Devnet International and the Women’s Federation of Shanghai was recently signed to intensify the cooperation and communication between international organizations and local Chinese government entities in the run up to the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. The agreement is viewed as a strategic alliance between these organizations, whereby Devnet will undertake preparatory activities for the introduction of the WINNER Program in China, including the countries of the Mekong Sub-region in Southeast Asia.
In the context of the pre-event program of the Shanghai World Expo 2010, this agreement between Devnet International and the Women’s Federation of Shanghai will serve as basis for launching various activities that will help draw international public attention to the significance of the World Expo as venue for international economic initiatives.
The signatories of the agreement, Director General Daniel Barrios of Devnet and Zhang Li Li, president of the Women’s Federation of Shanghai, jointly pronounced that the present agreement concretizes a strategic cooperation that allows the launching of the WINNER Project in China and the countries of the Mekong Sub-region.

Ratification of International Convention on Migrant Workers’ Rights Urged
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called on all countries, especially migrant-receiving countries to ratify the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
President Arroyo issued the call in her keynote address at the recently concluded two-day 2nd Global Forum on Migration and Development Government Meeting, attended by representatives of governments, at the Philippine International Convention Center, as she stressed the need for a concerted effort to address issues on migration, foremost of which is the protection of human rights.
